Dear Delegates,

Namaste! My name is Juhee Goyal and I will be the Chairperson for Shishukunj MUN's first World Trade Organization (or the Ministerial Conference). I'm an 11th grade science student, and yes I like science, but no, that's not the only thing I like. I love to read and besides being an avid Potter head, I love Artmeis Fowl, Percy Jackson and 39 Clues (but I'll read books of any genre with equal pleasure). I love Captain America, and Christopher Reeve's portrayal of Superman. I love to just sit on the internet and go from one topic, one site to another and I guess that's one thing I really like about MUNs. They give me the opportunity to just sit and research, read about interesting things that have the potential to change the world, and your perspective of it. I am also a big Quora addict.
First of all, the committee itself might sound boring to many, but I can promise you that we will make every effort possible to keep sessions interesting. Two of the main reasons why we decided to include this committee in Shishukunj MUN are: 1. So that you learn a lot of completely different things and are exposed to a completely different sphere of debate, and, 2. You'll be deriving solutions to many pressing issues that the world is facing as of now. Aren't these two reasons also why we participate in MUNs?
What I expect from you is thorough research about your country's policies related to the agenda. You should have in depth knowledge of the details of your country's economy, what your country's main trade is related to and different international trade agreements your country is and is not a part of. Knowledge about basic terminology related to economics, business and trade might prove to be quite beneficial in the committee.
Keep in mind that we're here to cooperate and derive solutions. Keep in mind that what you say is more important than the number of times you speak in committee. I look forward to seeing all of you this July.
Please feel free to contact me for any questions at wto@shishukunjmun.com. We're looking forward to meeting you!
Until then,
Juhee Goyal

Agenda

Reforms in Trade of Agricultural Produce and Environmental Policies

This committee is all about what actually drives the world- no, not political power, but financial and economical power. It's no wonder that the world's superpowers have the most dynamic and engaging economies. But, this power that they hold sometimes leads to monopoly on international trade and undemocratic control of the WTO. In addition to that, the WTO's policies on production and trade in agricultural produce have not been implemented fairly and have resulted in developed countries retaining trade barriers while developing countries are forced to remove them. To realize the WTO's mission of liberalizing world trade and to ensure fair representation in the decision making of the WTO, reforms are needed. The Ministerial Conference, the highest decision making authority of the WTO, is convening during this year's Shishukunj MUN to suggest reforms to the WTO on the grounds of trade in agricultural produce, and the regulation of the impact of global trade on the environment.
