Dear Delegates,

Hello and Welcome to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization! My name is Abhimanyu Sethia and I couldn't be more excited to serve as the Chairperson for this continuous crisis simulation of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization to be conducted at the Shishukunj MUN 2016.
First, about myself, I am a tenth grader and I love Mathematics. I am also a passionate blogger and an avid reader of non-fiction.I love reading and writing. If you are a Jeffery Archer fan, then we will surely gel. I'd love to get to know you so please feel free to contact me at nato@shishukunjmun.com with any doubt, query or just to connect.
Coming to the committee and the agenda, we have planned an extremely exciting simulation based on a deep and unconventional agenda. Should you happen to be in NATO, you shall face an extremely fast paced and competitive crisis environment which shall challenge your spontaneous thinking and creativity. The committee will seek to counter major drawbacks of the NATO policies via continuous crises, modified procedures and a system of crisis notes in order to make the committee realistic and thrilling. We will work in real time- so, be prepared for a few surprises along the line.

Agenda

Reforms in the NATO policy in the new world order

The man who has recently taken the world by terror, Donald Trump, called NATO an 'obsolete' organization and demanded for its replacement by a new military alliance altogether. In spite of all the baseless statements made by Trump, this one is an apparent exception. There is no doubt that NATO policies are quite outdated and are a great threat to the credibility of the Alliance. Is the concept of nuclear umbrella or collective defense as followed by NATO a violation of the non-proliferation treaty? How should Article 5 be rewritten in order to make it more comprehensive and to diminish ambiguity? What other crisis management and defense strategies can be adopted to substitute controversial military interventions of the NATO? Is NATO over-reliant on the United States? What should be NATO's policy towards Russia and other erstwhile USSR countries? Should the NATO expand towards the East which, as Russia alleges, would lead to a war? This year, we shall deal with these questions by countering potential crisis based on these ambiguities of the NATO policies. Happy researching!

Note on Crisis Commmittee

NATO will be a continuous crisis committee. In addition to what you speak inside the committee, we also assess you on the basis of what you do outside the committee. Through a system of crisis notes, we will allow you to take actions and react to crises unilaterally and plan meetings, converse and negotiate with anyone outside the committee ranging from your personal secretary to the Russian president. A continuous crisis committee interacts with the real world by taking actions in real time. We shall start in the present and end in the future which means that during the course of the conference we shall strive to cover a large span of time. Also, you shall have the chance to do unorthodox things in the committee, including but not limited to, spying on other members, making your private army, framing your rivals in a controversy, advancing your personal interests and even killing opponents. This year, NATO promises to not only be realistic, thrilling and enriching but also extremely challenging. We promise to keep you on your toes.
